Entry Requirements
You should hold an advanced level qualification (minimum level 3) in the subject area you wish to teach. You will also need to demonstrate a good level of English and Maths skills and preferably a level 2 qualification in English/literacy.
How Is It Assessed
There will be theory and practical assignments. You will also be assessed by observations and you will be required to submit a portfolio.
How Is It Taught
The course includes theory and practical sessions that will enable you to increase your knowledge and develop and practise your skills. You will be required to complete some self-study and in particular reading educational text books and journals.
What Could I do Next
Successful candidates may progress to the DET (Diploma in Education and Training), PGCE and/or a BA in Education.
What Else Do I Need To Know
You will need to have access to a total of 30 hours of teaching practice during the course. It is also important to have access to a subject specialist mentor, who is normally in the workplace where the teaching practice is undertaken. This will allow you to teach in the post compulsory sector and work for further education colleges, adult and community centres and work-based training providers in an Associate Teacher role.
