Course Summary

To enrol onto this apprenticeship, you must have an employer who is willing to support you throughout the duration of your training and end point assessment.

This apprenticeship is designed to equip individuals with the foundational knowledge, skills and behaviours required to become a barber. The course focuses on the following content:

Knowledge:
- Understanding hair types, scalp conditions, and the appropriate tools, products, and treatments.
- Barbershop health and safety and legal requirements.
- Techniques for effective client consultations and recommending services and/or products.

Skills:
- Shampooing, conditioning and treating the hair and scalp.
- Styling and finishing hair, including modern techniques.
- Cutting hair using different techniques.
- Cutting facial hair into shape.

Behaviours:
- Maintaining high levels of professionalism and customer service.
- Communicating effectively to ensure excellent customer care.
- Staying up to date with new trends and techniques.

Entry Requirements

GCSE Grade 3 or above in English or Maths.

How Is It Assessed

The End Point Assessment for the apprenticeship consists of a practical demonstration, a multiple choice test and a professional discussion supported by a portfolio of evidence. There is also a mandatory qualification attached to this apprenticeship which is the Level 2 Diploma for Hair Professionals attached and this is assessed through an online multiple choice test and practical assessment.

How Is It Taught

During the practical period, you will attend college one day a week and for the remaining part of your contracted hours, will be in the workplace building on your knowledge, skills and behaviours.

What Could I do Next

On completion of the Level 2 Barbering Professional apprenticeship, you may wish to consider the following courses - Level 3 Advanced and Creative Hair Professional or Level 3 Hair, wigs, make-up and prosthetics technician.

What Else Do I Need To Know

You will be assigned a Skills Coach who will visit and support you in the workplace and complete progress reviews in preparation for your End Point Assessment.
