Course Summary
This nationally accredited qualification is designed to provide individuals with the theoretical knowledge that they need to help them understand and handle medication within their workplace.The programme covers a wide range of information, best practice and legislation including an introduction to the types of medication that an individual is likely to encounter, explanation of the correct storage and handling of medication as well as legislative requirements for audit process and issues and accountability and responsibility.
Unit 1 - Understand medication and prescriptions
This unit provides an introduction to the many types of medication learners are likely to encounter in a work environment. It introduces some of the legislation about medication and sources of information and guidance
Unit 2 - Supply, storage and disposal of medication
This unit provides learners with an understanding of the requirements for safe handling, storage and disposal of medication and the roles and responsibilities of staff in relation to these procedures
Unit 3 - Understand the requirements for the safe administration of medication
This unit will provide learners with an understanding of the safe administration of medication. It covers the routes, processes and methods of administration and some of the more common side effects and adverse reactions to medication
Unit 4 - Record-keeping and audit processes for medication administration and storage
This unit provides an opportunity for learners to develop an understanding of the audit process, the records that must be maintained regarding the administration of medicines, and issues of accountability, responsibility and confidentiality

* You must be aged 19+* You must live in England (not available to people living in Ireland, Scotland or Wales)
* You must have been an EU resident for at least 3 years
* No qualifications are necessary for you to start the course.

How Is It Taught
As you work through the learning materials you will have the support of a knowledgeable assessor/tutor who will give you support, advice and guidance on the course content as well as providing robust feedback on the work you complete. Upon successful completion of the course you will be awarded the NCFE Level 2 Certificate in Understanding the Safe Handling of Medicines.What Could I do Next
After completing a distance learning qualification and receiving confirmation from your assessor that the course has been achieved, you are able to enrol on another distance learning qualification.What Else Do I Need To Know
The assessments are divided into units and submission of answers is per unit. Support is available from your assessor throughout the course and after the completion of each unit when the assessor will assess the answers provided and provide written feedback.Entry Requirements
