Course Summary

Fancy yourself as the next 'Apprentice' or think you could handle 'Dragons Den'? Then this is the course for you.
This course offers an interesting and challenging series of units designed to provide you with a broad knowledge of business and help you develop relevant skills to enable you to progress into work in the modern business world.

Units you will study include core units: The business environment, marketing, personal and business finance, organising an event, work-experience, the English legal system, employment law, international business, business decision making and HR. You will then study other specialist units designed to prepare you for the workplace or university.

Entry Requirements

4 GCSEs at grade4 or above, including English or maths at Grade 4, or a BTEC/NCFE Level 2 Diploma in IT /Business (distinction grade). You will have a pre-induction interview/assessment to make sure this is the right course and level for you.

How Is It Assessed

Year 1: Two exams (externally marked) and 2 - 4 coursework based units - depending on your pathway. Year 2: Tow exams (externally marked) and 4 - 7 coursework based units - depending on your pathway. All units/exams are graded at pass, merit or distinction.

How Is It Taught

You will study 4 - 6 units per year, combining formal lectures alongside carrying out research and taking part in visits and activities with employers and universities. In addition industry speakers help to provide insight into the modern business world. You will commit to securing and undertaking a work-experience placement for a minimum of 30 hours as part of the course. Businesses we have worked with include: Tesco, QHM, Cadbury, Unilever, Dudson Ltd, Alton Towers, NatWest, Stoke on Trent College departments, Grensons Solicitors, Plink Fizz, Unity, Disneyland, Heights of Abraham, Drayton Manor, Hanley Economic Building Society, UNIQ, Morrisons and Staffordshire University. Visits/residential that have been offered include, Alton Towers, Cadbury World, BBC Television Centre, Bank of England, London Eye, London Dungeon, Madam Tussauds, West end Theatres, Disneyland Paris, University college Birmingham, Staffordshire University, Manchester Arndale Centre, Trafford centre, Clothes Show, Nottingham City Centre, Derby Westfields Centre, High Ash Farm, Chester City centre, Liverpool Docks, Birmingham Bullring, Morrisons distribution centre and Local banks. In addition students will be required a complete a work experience programme to gain valuable experience in the workplace and appropriate enrichment activities to support this placement.

What Could I do Next

The qualification and skills acquired during this study programme can be used within the modern business world or in the wider job market. You could progress onto many different programmes of study including: Honours degree level studies, HNC/HND and apprenticeships.

What Else Do I Need To Know

This course will provide the opportunities to progress onto Higher Education or to embark on a career in business, retail, accounting, law or other commercial professions. Please note: It takes 2 years to complete this full Level 3 qualification. Progression to the second year of the course is subject to successful achievement of the first year of the course.
