The Higher National Diploma (HND) in Leadership and Management is a professional, higher-level qualification for individuals who want to step into, or progress within, operational, departmental or people-management roles. Designed in collaboration with industry and mapped to the Level 5 Operations Manager Occupational Standard, this HTQ equips you with the leadership, analytical and decision-making capabilities that modern employers value.

Entry Requirements

To join this Higher National Diploma, applicants should normally have:

* A relevant Level 3 qualification (such as BTEC, A Levels, Access to HE or an equivalent professional qualification)

* 4 GCSE’s at grade 9–4 (A–C)* or equivalent (including English and Maths)

* OR relevant professional or managerial work experience that demonstrates the potential to succeed on a Level 5 programme

We welcome applications from mature learners and those currently working in a supervisory or team leader role who wish to progress into management. Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) may also be considered where appropriate, in line with Pearson guidance.

How Is It Assessed

Assessment is entirely coursework and assignment based. There are no exams. You will complete a variety of assessments designed to mirror real workplace tasks, such as: * Business reports and proposals * Case studies and research projects * Presentations and pitches * Data analysis tasks * Group work activities * Reflective evaluations Two units (one at Level 4 and one at Level 5) include a Pearson-set assignment, which must be based on an annual theme set by the awarding body. All other assessments are internally set and graded.

How Is It Taught

Teaching combines academic insight with practical, employer-led learning. You will take part in: * Classroom-based teaching and seminars * Workshops that build leadership behaviours and interpersonal skills * Project-based learning linked to authentic business scenarios * Independent study supported by tutor feedback * Access to digital resources including e-books, study skills modules and industry materials The programme is designed to help you develop strong employability skills — including problem solving, communication, critical thinking, self-management, and data literacy.

Completing this Level 5 HND prepares you for a range of supervisory and management positions, including: * Operations Manager * Department Manager * HR or Talent Manager * Team Leader or Supervisor * Project or Change Coordinator * Business or Strategy Analyst Many universities also accept the HND for progression to top-up degrees at Level 6, including Leadership & Management, Business Management, Human Resource Management, Digital Business and related pathways.
