You have successfully authenticated and are now connected to the College’s Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) wireless network.
By using this network, you agree to comply with the College’s BYOD Policy and Acceptable Use Policy, and all other College policies which are in place to protect students, staff, visitors and College systems.
Please take a moment to review the key points below.
Keep your device secure
When using your own device on the College network, you are responsible for keeping it secure:
- Use a strong passcode or password and enable automatic screen locking
- Keep your operating system and apps up to date
- Ensure your device is encrypted, where supported
- Do not leave your device unattended in public areas
- Back up your data regularly
- Do not allow others to access College information on your device
- Report any lost devices, security issues or data breaches immediately
Acceptable use of the College network
You must only use the College’s network and IT systems:
- For lawful, appropriate and College‑related activities
- In line with safeguarding expectations for young people and vulnerable adults
- Without attempting to bypass security, filtering or monitoring controls
Your network activity may be monitored and logged for security, safeguarding and compliance purposes.
Internet access is provided via the JANET network and is subject to the JANET Acceptable Use Policy.
What you must not do
The following activities are not permitted while connected to the College network:
- Using VPNs or anonymisation tools to bypass web filtering or monitoring
- Attempting to evade security controls or network restrictions
- Downloading, accessing or sharing illegal, offensive or inappropriate material
- Using peer‑to‑peer software, Tor or Dark Web services
- Installing unauthorised software
- Sharing your College username or password, or using someone else’s account
Misuse of the network may result in disciplinary action, removal of access, or referral to appropriate authorities.
Safeguarding and monitoring
To meet the College’s safeguarding and PREVENT responsibilities:
- Certain categories of internet activity are actively monitored
- Activity that presents a risk to students, vulnerable adults or the wider community may be reviewed and escalated to safeguarding staff and external agencies where required
