Course Summary

Step into the fast-growing world of low-carbon heating with our Air Source Heat Pump Design course. This hands-on programme is designed to give you the practical skills, confidence and industry knowledge needed to design efficient, customer-focused heat pump systems for real homes.

You’ll learn how to assess a property, understand a customer’s energy needs, calculate heat loss and running costs, and create a professional design proposal that balances performance, sustainability and budget. By the end of the course, you’ll be able to present your design clearly to a client, justify your choices and offer clear aftercare advice.

This course is ideal for anyone looking to future-proof their career and be part of the UK’s transition to greener heating solutions.

Course Requirements

It is ideal if you:

* Have an interest in renewable energy and sustainable technologies
* Are working in, or aiming to work in, construction, plumbing or heating
* Want to upskill for the growing green economy
* Are comfortable with basic maths and communicating with customers

No previous heat pump experience is required, just a willingness to learn and an interest in the future of heating.

How Is It Assessed

Assessment is through a practical design project, not a formal exam. You will complete and deliver a client-style presentation that demonstrates your ability to: * Build a detailed customer profile * Calculate heat loss and energy requirements * Design an effective air source heat pump system * Cost the installation and present clear pricing options * Explain timelines, benefits and aftercare support This assessment method reflects real workplace practice and helps you build confidence in presenting to customers and employers.

How Is It Taught

Learning is practical, engaging and built around real-life scenarios. You’ll be taught in our brand-new Green Technology Hub through a mix of: * Tutor-led sessions led by industry-experienced staff * Practical activities focused on surveying properties and analysing energy use * Realistic customer case studies * Guided use of professional presentation and design tools You won’t just learn the theory, you’ll apply your knowledge to realistic projects that mirror how air source heat pumps are designed and sold in industry.

What Could I do Next

Completing this course can open the door to a range of exciting opportunities, including: * Progression to higher-level renewable energy or heat pump qualifications * Supporting a move into roles within low-carbon heating, retrofit or building services * Enhancing your CV for work with installers, housing providers or energy companies * Gaining essential knowledge for those looking to start or grow a business in renewable heating

What Else Do I Need To Know

* This is a Level 2 qualification * You’ll gain valuable skills in heat loss calculations, energy efficiency and system design * The course covers installation considerations such as space, noise, disruption and customer expectations * You’ll explore smart heating controls and how they improve efficiency and comfort * Sustainability, professionalism and customer confidence are central to everything you learn
