Course Summary

This nationally accredited qualification is designed to provide individuals with an appreciation and understanding of a number of different mental health issues that may be encountered.
The programme covers a wide range of mental health conditions, what their indicating signs, triggers and symptoms may be, how it can affect an individual’s ability to cope and function as well as looking at guidance on how to potentially manage and support them with their illness on a day-to-day basis.

Unit 1 - Understanding Mental Health
In this unit learners will understand what is meant by mental health and its impact. They will also look at the legal frameworks which ensure high quality care is provided

Unit 2 - Understanding stress
In this unit learners will gain an understanding of stress and its causes, as well as the effects stress can have on individuals and their daily life. Learners will gain an understanding of ways in which stress can be managed

Unit 3 - Understanding anxiety
In this unit learners will gain an understanding of anxiety, the causes of anxiety and how it affects the individual and others. Learners will also gain an understanding of ways in which anxiety can be managed

Unit 4 - Understanding phobias
In this unit learners will gain an understanding of phobias, the causes of phobias and the effect they can have on the individual and others. Learners will also gain an understanding of ways in which phobias can be managed

Unit 5 - Understanding depression
In this unit learners will gain an understanding of depression, the causes of depression and how it can affect individuals and others. Learners will also gain an understanding of ways in which depression can be managed

Unit 6 - Understanding post-natal depression
In this unit learners will gain an understanding of postnatal depression and its causes, looking at how it can affect the individual and others. Learners will also gain an understanding of ways in which postnatal depression can be managed

Unit 7 - Understanding bipolar disorder
In this unit learners will gain an understanding of bipolar disorder, its causes and the effect it can have on individuals and their daily lives. Learners will gain an understanding of ways in which bipolar disorder can be managed

Unit 8 - Understanding schizophrenia
In this unit learners will gain an understanding of schizophrenia, the causes of schizophrenia and media representation of the condition. Learners will gain an understanding of ways in which schizophrenia can be managed

Unit 9 - Understanding dementia
In this unit learners will gain an understanding of dementia, its causes and how it can affect the individual and others. Learners will also gain an understanding of the ways in which dementia can be managed

Unit 10 - Understanding eating disorders
In this unit learners will gain an understanding of eating disorders, the causes of eating disorders and how they can affect the individual and others. Learners will gain an understanding of ways in which eating disorders can be managed

Unit 11 - Understanding attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD)
In this unit learners will gain an understanding of ADHD, the causes of the condition and the effect it can have on an individual and others. Learners will gain an understanding of ways in which ADHD can be managed

Unit 12 - Understanding Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD)
In this unit learners will gain an understanding of OCD, the causes of OCD and how it can affect the individual and others. Learners will gain an understanding of ways in which OCD can be managed

Unit 13 - Understanding Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
In this unit learners will gain an understanding of PTSD, its causes and how it can affect the individual and others. Learners will also gain an understanding of the ways in which PTSD can be managed

Course Requirements

Entry Requirements

* You must be aged 19+
* You must live in England (not available to people living in Ireland, Scotland or Wales)
* You must have been an EU resident for at least 3 years
* No qualifications are necessary for you to start the course.
All learners are subject to an eligibility check before you can start the course. You may be required to forward information to us about your current employment or income/benefit status to allow you to get started.

How Is It Taught

As you work through the learning materials you will have the support of a knowledgeable assessor/tutor who will give you support, advice and guidance on the course content as well as providing robust feedback on the work you complete. Upon successful completion of the course you will be awarded the NCFE/Ascentis Level 2 Certificate in Mental Health Awareness.

What Could I do Next

After completing a distance learning qualification and receiving confirmation from your assessor that the course has been achieved, you are able to enrol on another distance learning qualification.

What Else Do I Need To Know

The assessments are divided into units and submission of answers is per unit. Support is available from your assessor throughout the course and after the completion of each unit when the assessor will assess the answers provided and provide written feedback.
