Diploma in Counselling Skills – Level 3 (NCFE)

Course Summary

This qualification is designed for learners interested in using counselling
skills as part of their functional role in a wide range of sector areas, or
looking to progress towards accredited counsellor status with one of the
counselling professional accrediting bodies. This qualification does not qualify learners to practise as a counsellor.

Unit 1 – Developing counselling skills
In this unit learners will have an opportunity to identify, practise and develop a range of interpersonal and counselling skills. On completion learners will be aware of the skills required to initiate, maintain and conclude a counselling skills interaction.

Unit 2 – Theoretical approaches in the use of counselling skills
In this unit learners will have an opportunity to understand and evaluate key elements of the main theoretical approaches to counselling.

Unit 3 – Working ethically with counselling skills
In this unit, learners will have the opportunity to gain an understanding of the context within which counselling skills and referral processes can be used whilst maintaining ethical standards.

Unit 4 – Counselling skills and diversity
In this unit learners will have an opportunity to appreciate the implications of applying counselling skills in a diverse society.

Unit 5 – Counselling skills and personal development
In this unit learners will have the opportunity to reflect on their personal development and the way in which they interact with others.

Entry Requirements

* You must be aged 19+
* You must live in England (not available to people living in Ireland, Scotland or Wales)
* You must have been an EU resident for at least 3 years
* To qualify for free funding, you must be earning less than £25,000 per year, or be unemployed/retired. (Please note that if you are aged 19 to 23 and earn above the threshold, you may still be eligible if you do not already have a level 3 qualification).
All learners are subject to an eligibility check before you can start the course. You may be required to forward information to us about your current employment or income/benefit status to allow you to get started.

How Is It Assessed

Assessment is based on answering questions either online or by completing a paper-based question/answer paper.

How Is It Taught

As you work through the learning materials, you will have the support of a knowledgeable assessor/tutor who will give you support, advice and guidance on the course content as well as providing robust feedback on the work you complete. Upon successful completion of the course, you will be awarded the CACHE Level 3 Diploma in Counselling Skills.

What Could I do Next

After completing a distance learning qualification and receiving confirmation from your assessor that the course has been achieved, you are able to enrol on another distance learning qualification.

What Else Do I Need To Know

The assessments are divided into units and submission of answers is per unit. Support is available from your assessor throughout the course and after the completion of each unit when the assessor will assess the answers provided and provide written feedback.
