Functional Skills in Mathematics (C&G) – Starts February 2027

Course Summary

This course helps you improve your Maths skills whatever your starting point is. It will cover different areas of maths learning including working with numbers, understanding percentages everyday measurements and much more. The course is delivered by experienced tutors who will use real life and work examples like checking bills, budgeting, calculating percentages, getting the best value for money, averages, using metric and imperial measuring systems; working out perimeter, area and volume and much more.
This course will give you the confidence and skills you need in maths for everyday life and work.

How Is It Taught

Classes are 2 hours in length. You will be working in a friendly and relaxed atmosphere with others of similar abilities in a supportive environment. A mixture of group activities, discussions and individual study is used to help everybody towards their own targets. Learning is on paper, computer and often includes puzzles and games to get you thinking.

What Could I do Next

Your tutor will talk with you regularly during the course about how you’re getting on and about moving on to the next stage. You could move onto the next level of functional skills maths and onto a GCSE. You will also be introduced to other services the college has that could help - including Careers and Job Bank. This means that you can be ready to make the most of new opportunities. You might want to brush up on your English skills as well - and we can help you with a course on that too!
