Course Summary

This course is an introductory into the world of health and social care, childcare and education settings. It will give you an insight into all these settings, what is expected when working in these settings and key information which will support you in making the decision in which sector to specialise.

How Is It Assessed

The course will be assessed through written assessments, which you will then use to put together a portfolio of evidence.

How Is It Taught

The course is taught one evening a week, with the first half of the course concentrating on the Health and Social Care sector and the second half focusing on the childcare and primary school sector.

What Could I do Next

After this qualification you can make the decision to specialise in one of these sectors and move onto level 2. Once you move to level 2 you will need to make the decision which of these sectors you want to study and therefore it is important that you use the experience at level 1 to decide what is your best route.

What Else Do I Need To Know

We recommend that you do do some voluntary work in a Health and Social Care, Childcare or primary school for at least 4 hours a week. This will support you in applying the knowledge you learn in the classroom into practice. Also by completing real life work experiences you will get a true reflection of what it is like to work in the sector and if this the sector for you. When you make the decision to specialise in one of these sectors at level 2 a placement is a mandatory part of the qualification, therefore by completing a placement at level 1 this is also preparing you for the requirements at level 2.
