Level 2 Diploma for the Early Years Practitioner

Course Summary

This programme aims to prepare students to work in a supervised role competently, safely and effectively with children from birth to five years. It will prepare you to work in a range of Early Years settings with different professionals and volunteers, recognising and valuing the importance of all of them in providing a service for children and their families.

Entry Requirements

No formal entry requirements, however a clear DBS is required to work with children and a minimum of a one day a week in an early years placement.

How Is It Taught

The taught elements of the course will take place in college, using a wide range of teaching strategies and technology. You will be expected to complete some hours of directed study working at your own pace guided by the staff. Practicial on the job training takes place in an Early Years setting where your practical skills will also be assessed.

What Could I do Next

On completion of the course, you may be able to progress onto the Diploma for the Early Years Workforce(Early Years Educator)or an Advanced Apprenticeship if you have GCSE English and Maths at grade A*-C. Alternatively, you could gain employment as a Nursery Assistant, Pre-School Assistant or other Early Years Practitioner.

What Else Do I Need To Know

In this programme, you will learn about children at different stages in their growth and development. You will also learn how to care for and educate children and how to work with parents, carers and other professionals. The topics studied will include such things as: The role of the Early Years practitioner, physical care routines, equality and diversity as well as children's play activities. You will have to pay for course items such as stationery, books and equipment. Some courses have placements or visits, which may have costs attached.
