Course Summary

To enrol onto this apprenticeship, you must have an employer who is willing to support you throughout the duration of your training and end point assessment.

The Level 3 Gas Engineering Operative Apprenticeship prepares individuals to safely install, commission, decommission, and maintain gas systems and appliances in residential and commercial settings.

The apprenticeship focuses on the following course content:

Knowledge:
Gas Industry Standards and Regulations
* The Gas Safety (Installation and Use) Regulations and related standards.
* Health and safety policies, including risk assessments and safe working practices.
Combustion and Gas Safety Principles
* The principles of combustion, ventilation, and flueing to ensure safe operation.
* Identifying and rectifying unsafe situations and non-compliance.
Technical Understanding
* Gas system components and appliances, including boilers, fires, and cookers.
* The function and operation of controls, meters, and safety devices.
Energy Efficiency and Environmental Considerations
* Methods to improve energy efficiency in gas appliances and systems.
* Environmental impact and sustainability practices.
Customer Service
* Effective communication with customers, including explaining technical issues.
* Managing customer expectations and resolving queries professionally.

Installation and Maintenance
* Install, commission, and decommission gas appliances and systems.

Entry Requirements

GCSE Grade 4 or above in English or Maths.

How Is It Assessed

The End Point Assessment for this apprenticeship consists of a portfolio assessment , incorporating Gas Safe® registration, competency test and work log review, which includes an interview. You will also complete a knowledge test. This apprenticeship also includes a mandatory qualification which is the Level 3 Diploma in Gas Engineering.

How Is It Taught

During the practical period, you will attend college one day a week and for the remaining part of your contracted hours, will be in the workplace building on your knowledge, skills and behaviours.
