Course Summary

To enrol onto this apprenticeship, you must have an employer who is willing to support you throughout the duration of your training and end point assessment.

The Level 2 Engineering Operative Apprenticeship is designed to prepare individuals for entry-level roles in engineering and manufacturing. They may be involved in assembly, maintenance, quality control, or logistics, ensuring products and systems meet required specifications. We offer three routes for this apprenticeship: Maintenance, Fabrication and Materials, Processing & Finishing

The apprenticeship focuses on the following course content:

Knowledge:
Engineering Basics
• Fundamental engineering principles and processes.
• Tools, equipment, and materials used in the workplace.
Health and Safety
• Regulations, procedures, and practices to ensure a safe working environment.
• Risk assessments and hazard identification.
Quality Standards
• Understanding product specifications and ensuring compliance with quality standards.
• Principles of continuous improvement and quality control.
Workplace Practices
• Effective teamwork and communication in an engineering environment.
• Planning and organising tasks to meet production and operational goals.

Skills:
Using Tools and Equipment
• Operate a variety of tools and machinery safely and efficiently.
• Conduct basic maintenance and checks on equipment.
Engineering Processes
• Perform specific tasks such as assembly, fitting, fabrication, or finishing.
• Follow technical drawings, specifications, and instructions accurately.
Problem-Solving
• Identify and resolve simple issues that may arise during operations.
• Escalate complex problems to senior colleagues or supervisors.

• Inspect and test products or components to ensure they meet required standards.

Entry Requirements

GCSE Grade 3 or above in English or Maths.

How Is It Assessed

The End Point Assessment for this apprenticeship consists of a practical observation and professional discussion.

How Is It Taught

During the practical period, you will attend college one day a week and for the remaining part of your contracted hours, will be in the workplace building on your knowledge, skills and behaviours.

On completion of this apprenticeship, you may wish to consider the following courses to further progress your career: Level 3 Metal Fabricator, Level 3 Plate Welder, Level 3 Pipe Welder, Level 3 Machining Technician or Level 3 Maintenance and Operations Engineering Technician.

You will be assigned a Skills Coach who will visit and support you in the workplace and complete progress reviews in preparation for your End Point Assessment.
