Alumnus represents Great Britain at the European Paralympic Youth Games
Aaron Mitchell, former Sports, Coaching and Exercise student at Stoke on Trent College, recently represented Great Britain at the European Paralympic Youth Games in Finland!
Aaron now combines his studies at York University with coaching the under-19’s Great Britain Goalball Team – a phenomenal achievement at only 19 years of age.
A chat with Aaron – Great Britain Goalball Assistant Coach
What course did you study?
“I studied Level 2 Sports Coaching and progressed onto Level 3 Sports and Exercise Science.”
What did you enjoy about the courses(s) you studied?
“I really enjoyed the practical aspects of the course, as well as the work experience opportunities I was presented with. The regular access and involvement in disability coaching really helped me discover my passion.”
What was your first destination after leaving College?
“York St John University, completing an Integrated Masters in Sports Coaching and Physical Education.”
“As well as studying at University I also assist with coaching the under 19’s great Britain Goalball Team and recently represented GB at the European Paralympic Youth Games in Finland. My experiences with disability sport at College have also prepared me to coach visually impaired athletes.”
What message would you like to give to current and prospective students?
“If you’re given the opportunity, take it! My confidence and self-belief grew massively after getting involved in all of the extra-curricular coaching activities that the College offered me.”
