Course Summary

To enrol onto this apprenticeship, you must have an employer who is willing to support you throughout the duration of your training and end point assessment.

This apprenticeship offers progression from the Level 2 apprenticehip to further your career. We offer two routes: site carpentry and architectural joinery.

Knowledge

Construction Principles
- Advanced understanding of building methods, construction technology, and structural integrity.
- Principles of geometry and measurements used in carpentry and joinery.
Materials and Tools
- Characteristics, uses, and limitations of different types of timber and manufactured boards.
- Selection, maintenance, and safe use of hand tools, power tools, and equipment.
Technical Specifications
- Reading, interpreting, and producing complex technical drawings and specifications.
- Understanding tolerances and the importance of precise measurements.
Techniques and Methods
- Advanced joinery and carpentry techniques, including complex joints, bespoke furniture, and structural timber components.
- Installation methods for doors, windows, staircases, and other structural or decorative elements.
Health, Safety, and Environmental Considerations
- Legal and best-practice standards for safe working environments, including COSHH and manual handling regulations.
- Sustainable practices, waste management, and the environmental impact of materials.
Building Regulations and Standards
- Compliance with current building regulations, British Standards, and codes of practice.

Entry Requirements

GCSE Grade 4 or above in English or Maths, or equivalent qualifications. You will also need a Level 2 Carpentry & Joinery qualification or significant experience in the industry.

How Is It Assessed

The End Point Assessment for the apprenticeship consists of a multiple choice test, interview underpinned by a portfolio of evidence and a practical assessment with questions.

How Is It Taught

During the practical period, you will attend college one day a week and for the remaining part of your contracted hours, will be in the workplace building on your knowledge, skills and behaviours.

What Could I do Next

Once completed, you may wish to consider to progress your career and complete a Level 4 Construction Site Supervisor or Level 4 Construction Contracts Manager Apprenticeship.

What Else Do I Need To Know

You will be assigned a Skills Coach who will visit and support you in the workplace and complete progress reviews in preparation for your End Point Assessment.
