Course Summary

To enrol onto this apprenticeship, you must have an employer who is willing to support you throughout the duration of your training and end point assessment.

The Level 2 Welder Apprenticeship develops the technical knowledge, practical skills and professional behaviours required to produce high-quality welded components safely and effectively within engineering and manufacturing environments.

The apprenticeship focuses on the following course content:

Knowledge
- Health, safety and environmental requirements within welding operations
- Welding processes and techniques, including MIG, TIG and MMA welding
- Engineering drawings, specifications and welding symbols
- Materials and their properties, including metals and alloys
- Quality standards, inspection methods and testing procedures
- Welding equipment, tools and maintenance requirements
- Industry regulations, standards and safe working practices

Skills
- Prepare materials and work areas for welding activities
- Read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications
- Select appropriate welding processes, equipment and consumables
- Produce welded joints to required quality standards
- Inspect and check completed welds for accuracy and defects
- Maintain welding equipment and tools safely
- Work efficiently whilst meeting production and quality requirements
- Follow health and safety procedures at all times

Entry Requirements

GCSE Grade 3 or above in English or Maths, or equivalent qualifications.

How Is It Assessed

The End Point Assessment for the apprenticeship consists of a multiple choice test, interview underpinned by a portfolio of evidence and a practical assessment with questions.

How Is It Taught

During the practical period, you will attend college one day a week and for the remaining part of your contracted hours, will be in the workplace building on your knowledge, skills and behaviours.

Once completed, you may wish to consider the following apprenticeships: Level 3 Metal Fabricator, Level 3 Pipe Welder or Level 3 Plate Welder.

What Else Do I Need To Know

You will be assigned a Skills Coach who will visit and support you in the workplace and complete progress reviews in preparation for your End Point Assessment.
