Course Summary

To enrol onto this apprenticeship, you must have an employer who is willing to support you throughout the duration of your training and end point assessment.

This apprenticeship is ideal for someone who has completed their Level 2 apprenticeship and is looking to progress their career further.

The apprenticeship covers the following areas:

Knowledge

Construction Principles
- Understanding structural principles, materials and their properties.
- Techniques for constructing walls, foundations and arches.
Bricklaying Techniques
- Correct methods for measuring, cutting, and laying bricks and blocks.
- Knowledge of various brick bonds.
Health and Safety
- Adhering to construction safety standards, including manual handling and safe use of tools.
Tools and Materials
- Use, maintenance, and storage of hand tools and power tools.
- Knowledge of mortar preparation and mixing.
Blueprints and Specifications
- Reading and interpreting technical drawings and project plans.

Skills

Bricklaying Proficiency
- Laying bricks and blocks accurately to create structures that are level, plumb, and square.
- Using specialized techniques for arches, openings, and decorative brickwork.
Problem-Solving
- Identifying and addressing issues on-site, such as material shortages or design inconsistencies.
Efficiency and Quality
- Working to project timelines while ensuring precision and durability.
Site Preparation and Maintenance
- Setting up the work area and ensuring cleanliness and organization during and after tasks.

- Coordinating with other tradespeople, supervisors, and project managers.

Entry Requirements

GCSE Grade 4 or above in English or Maths, or equivalent qualifications. You will also need a Level 2 Bricklayer qualification or significant experience in the industry.

How Is It Assessed

The End Point Assessment for the apprenticeship consists of a multiple choice test, interview underpinned by a portfolio of evidence and a practical assessment with questions.

How Is It Taught

During the practical period, you will attend college one day a week and for the remaining part of your contracted hours, will be in the workplace building on your knowledge, skills and behaviours.

Once completed, you may wish to consider to progress onto the Level 4 Construction Site Supervisor Apprenticeship.

What Else Do I Need To Know

You will be assigned a Skills Coach who will visit and support you in the workplace and complete progress reviews in preparation for your End Point Assessment.
