The Level 3 Metal Fabricator Apprenticeship develops the advanced technical skills and knowledge required to manufacture, assemble and install metal structures and components used across engineering, construction, manufacturing, transport and energy sectors.
The apprenticeship focuses on the following course content:
Knowledge
- Health, safety and environmental regulations within fabrication environments
- Engineering principles and fabrication techniques
- Materials, metals and their properties
- Technical drawings, specifications and fabrication documentation
- Welding and joining methods
- Fabrication equipment, machinery and tooling
- Quality assurance, inspection and testing processes
- Lean manufacturing and continuous improvement principles
Skills
- Interpret engineering drawings and specifications
- Measure, mark out and prepare materials accurately
- Cut, shape, assemble and fabricate metal components
- Use a range of fabrication tools, machinery and equipment
- Carry out welding and joining activities where required
- Inspect finished products against specifications and quality standards
