Course Summary

To enrol onto this apprenticeship, you must have an employer who is willing to support you throughout the duration of your training and end point assessment.

Construction Design and Build Technicians assist in planning, designing, and overseeing construction projects, ensuring quality, safety, and compliance with regulations. They act as a link between design teams, contractors, and clients. This apprenticeship also includes a Higher Technical Qualification (HTQ) in Construction Management.

The course covers the following content:

Knowledge
Construction Principles
- Structural behaviour, building methods, and materials.
- Building Information Modelling (BIM) and digital construction technologies.
Regulations and Standards
- Construction-related legislation, health and safety standards, and environmental considerations.
Design and Planning
- Principles of design, sustainability, and accessibility in construction projects.
- Techniques for surveying and site assessments.
Project Management
- Understanding project lifecycles, scheduling, and budgeting.
- Risk management and quality assurance processes.

Skills
Technical Design
- Interpret technical drawings and specifications to support construction projects.
- Use software tools
Project Coordination
- Plan and monitor project activities to ensure timely delivery.
- Manage resources, costs, and logistics effectively.
Communication
- Liaise with clients, contractors, and stakeholders to gather requirements and report progress.

Entry Requirements

GCSE Grade 4 or above in English and Maths, or equivalent.

How Is It Assessed

The End Point Assessment for the apprenticeship consists of a multiple choice test, project with report and a professional discussion underpinned by a portfolio of evidence. You will also complete a Level 4 HTQ in Construction Management.

How Is It Taught

During the practical period, you will attend college one day a week and for the remaining part of your contracted hours, will be in the workplace building on your knowledge, skills and behaviours.

What Could I do Next

Once completed, you may wish to consider a Level 6 degree in Construction Management or Architectural Assistant.

What Else Do I Need To Know

You will be assigned a Skills Coach who will visit and support you in the workplace and complete progress reviews in preparation for your End Point Assessment.
